First Years Second Modelling Assignment

Hello everyone, today's assignment is to create a toolbox. You will need to find a reference image from the Internet and make a copy. The image you have chosen will need to be turned in along with the final Maya file.

What do you need to know in order to create a successful model.
1. How is the toolbox constructed? ie - What material is it made of?
2. How do the hinges work?
3. How does the clasp work to close the lid?
4. Is the toolbox open or closed?
5. What view are you going to view it as?

Students are really starting to get the hang of modelling. We started with three tools: Split polygon, Insert edge loop, and Extrude. Some students started to look up reference images on their own and started to get an idea of what a row boat looks like ahead of starting to model one. Way to go guys.

First modeling assignment: create a simple row boat from a rectangle using the create edge loop tool, split polygon tool and the extrude tool. Some students are struggling with the concept as they must visualize what they want it to look like before they start as well as shape the object from as few edges as possible then add more as you need to create the details.

First day of classes

Hello students today is the first day of classes. I will be posting your assignments on this blog and any references that you may need to help you with those assignments. The class is divided into two groups; those that took this class last year and those that did not. The first assignment is for all the students in order to familiarize yourself with the User Interface (or UI) of Maya. Maya is the 3D software package that we will be using. Below you will see an area called Links to Animation Sites, one link is Maya Study Packets and the other is Digital Steam Industry and Careers. Got to the first link to watch videos on how to use Maya and the other to watch videos from people in different careers.

Welcome back to school and welcome to new students. This is a new blog set up for my animation students. Here we can look at resources and lessons as well as just chat about what is happening in class in the industry and discuss favourite movies and games.More to come as I get set for school.
